The short answer
The old way was to check each cinema's programme yourself and pick out the handful of original-version showings. Now those English-language screenings are collected in one place and refreshed every day, so you can browse them all at once:
This guide covers the cinemas we track in and around St. Gallen. We focus on films in their original English version, not every screening in the city.
What do "OV" and "E/d/f" mean?
Swiss cinema listings use a few local labels to signal the language a film is shown in:
- OV stands for Originalversion, meaning the film runs in its original version rather than a dubbed one. When that original language is English, this is the screening you want.
- E/d/f means the film is in English (E) with German (d, Deutsch) and French (f, français) subtitles.
OV alone does not identify English audio: the original language could be something else. English subtitles alone do not qualify either. English Cinema St. Gallen only includes screenings with English audio and brings those sessions together across cinemas. When booking on a cinema operator’s own site, which also lists other languages, check the audio and subtitle details for your chosen session.
